Five ways I became sure that Sophia would be my wife: The will of God

Today, we will be discussing the most important thing in choosing a spouse. So far we’ve looked at four different things in the last two days.

1. I had a knowing
2. I was given to dreams and visions
3. There was mutual attraction
4. I loved her sincerely

We are looking at the last point which I believe in my own estimation is about the most important.

People talk about “The will of God.” What is the

will of God as it relates to marriage? Some people are even scared of discovering the will of God because they think God’s will might be what they want. Does it really work that way?

Some others will call me and say, “Pastor, can I really be sure?” Why does it seemingly look like it is difficult to know the will of God?

How can you really be sure? That is what we are looking at.

5. There was Peace!

Before I eventually asked her out, I could see that I had peace with what I was about to do. There were doubts in my head about what her response would be, but there was peace in my heart.

What is this peace exactly? How does one know this peace? How can one know that what he is sensing is this peace of God and not some emotional roller-coaster?

Pastor, can you define this peace” The answer is a big No! Here is why:
"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."  (Php 4:7, KJV)

It passes all understanding!

Ok, so one cannot really define it fully in words but we know what It does when it is there. You may not be able to define God but you He is there. You may not have a definition for Favour, but you know what being favoured is when somebody blessed you unexpectedly. You may not be able to define a dog but you know it can bark.

Lets' look at what this peace of God seeks to do when it is there.

KJV says it will keep your heart and mind. That is, somewhere deep down in the knower of your knower, you will know when you have met the right person.

Message Translations calls it a sense of God's wholeness.
"Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life."  (Php 4:7, MSG)

It's something you sense, beyond feelings, that everything is okay about a particular decision. A sensing that removes worry from your choice, and gives a deep assurance that all things are working together for good, even in the midst of obvious contradictions. This also means when there is constant, stubborn worry, it may not be the peace of God.

Lets us see how Amplified version describes it.
"And God's peace [ shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace ] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."  (Php 4:7, AMP)

It is a tranquil state of heart. It is a state where you fear nothing and when you are content with earthly lot. Then, I love this, it will garrison and mount guard over your heart and mind.

In other words, that peace of God is like a security officer protecting you and guiding your decisions. Glory to God! If you allow the peace of God to be your security officer, you will never have a broken heart. Nobody will every hurt you, use you or dump you. Nobody will ever abandon you three weeks to wedding.

Else where in the scriptures, it describes this peace of God as an umpire. An umpire is a referee.
"And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [ deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state ] to which as [ members of Christ's ] one body you were also called [ to live ]. And be thankful (appreciative), [ giving praise to God always ]."  (Col 3:15, AMP)

It settles with finality all questions in your heart acting as a referee. When you are committing a foul, he tells you. When you have truly scored, he tells you! When you are offline, he blows a whistle in your heart. When you are messing up, he shows you a yellow card. When you are deceived, he issues a red card on the other person!

Finally, what do you sense when there is peace of God about a decision?
1. A sensing that all is well.
2. A deep sense of wholeness that God is with you.
3. An unexplainable tranquility that you are doing the right thing.

What if there is absence of peace? What do you sense?
1. A sensing that all is not well.
2. A red card issued in your heart just like a referee issues a red card.
3. An unexplainable fear.
4. An uneasy feeling that something is wrong!

When you have these feelings, do not ignore them! God is trying to warn you!

If you are already married and you feel you missed it, do not worry, God can and will make all things right if you take the issues back to Him.

Listen to me, when you allow this peace of God to lead you, to guide you, to settle all questions in your heart, to act as your security man and your referee, you will never miss it, and I say that with all sense of responsibility, you will never miss it!

I pray for you this morning, you will get it right. You will not be confused. You will not regret. You will hear His voice. You will be led of God and you will get it right in Jesus name!
